UFC 154 PREVIEW
Author: MARK LYONS
Date: 11/17/2012

In a year where the UFC has been largely snake bitten with cards and fights cancelled due to injuries on what felt like a weekly basis; the promotion gets a needed boost when Georges St Pierre returns from knee surgery to defend his Welterweight title against Carlos Condit.

GSP has already solidified himself as one of the greatest fighters in Mixed Martial Arts history. His athleticism is so vast that his takedowns have become as, or more, dominant than Collegiate national champion wrestlers without having any experience in the sport. The speed in his shot is unrivaled in the weight class and you have to think that’s the battle plan for the champion as wrestling is the only weakness in his challenger’s game.

TRUE BRIT: FROCH VS. MACK PPV WEIGHTS
Author: FULL COURT PRESS
Date: 11/16/2012

(L-R) Carl Froch & Yusaf Mack
(All pictures by Lawrence Lustig)

IBF Super Middleweight Championship (12)

CARL FROCH (29-2, 21 KOs), Champion, Nottingham, UK 167 ½ lbs.

vs.

YUSAF MACK (31-4-2, 17 KOs), Challenger, Philadelphia, PA, USA 168 lbs

Froch quotes from today's official weigh-in: "I've trained just as hard for this fight as I did for the Bute fight. The training, the physical side of it: the runs, the groundwork and the sparring, have been just as hard as last time. You've got to be in tip-top shape for every single fight, if I turned up 50-percent fit for Mack then I'm probably going to get beat. It's as simple as that. I can't just take my foot off the gas and think, 'Oh, I've got an easy fight.' There's no such thing as an easy fight, so I turn up fully prepared for whoever I'm fighting.

Date: 11/16/2012

Liam Walsh has been forced to withdraw from his WBO World Lightweight title challenge against champion Ricky Burns after suffering a back injury in a car accident earlier this week.

The unbeaten Cromer star, 26, was due to face Burns on Saturday 15th December at the ExCeL London, but after receiving expert medical advice he has been told to rest and not resume training for four weeks.

Burns, from Coatbridge in Scotland, will still headline Frank Warren's big multi-title show with the third defence of his title against a new challenger to be announced shortly.

An action-packed show features Commonwealth Super-Middleweight Champion George Groves defending his title against the Road Warrior Glen Johnson in an exciting chief supporting contest, and big-punching Billy Joe Saunders defends his Commonwealth Middleweight title against Nick Blackwell with the Vacant British title also on the line.

Walsh, who holds the Commonwealth and WBO European titles, said, "I'm devastated at the moment that I’m not going to be challenging Burns for the world title. I have followed the advice of the doctors and withdrawn from the fight. The doctors have said hopefully I'll be able to ..........

FIGHT BREAKS OUT AT SHOBOX WEIGH-IN
Author: SHOWTIME
Date: 11/16/2012

The fighters who’ll compete in the co-feature tomorrow/Nov. 16, on ShoBox: The New Generation live on SHOWTIME® (11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast) from Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., had to be separated by their camps after a mini-melee broke out Thursday during the weigh-in.

The fracas between super welterweights Joey “Twinkle Fingers” Hernandez (22-1-1, 13 KOs), of Miami (pictured at the left), and James “Shotgun” Winchester (15-5, 5 KOs), of Greensboro, N.C., came after Hernandez shoved Winchester before they were to pose for cameras after they both weighed in. Their 10-round clash, which will open the telecast, was just added to the televised portion of the event late Wednesday. No one enjoyed the commotion more than Hall of Fame promoter, Don King.

Both fighters made weight; Hernandez tipped the scale at 156 pounds, Winchester 155¾.

Undefeated lightweights Angelo “La Cobra” Santana (13-0, 10 KOs), of Miami, Fla., and Johnny Garcia (13-0, 8 KOs), of Holland, Mich., collide in the ShoBox main event.

Garcia made the contracted weight (135 pounds) easily, coming in at 133¾ pounds. Santana came in 1¾ pounds overweight, however, and had two hours to shed the excess poundage.

UFC 154: GEORGES ST. PIERRE VS. CARLOS CONDIT – A CLOSER LOOK
Author: ARMANDO ROMO JUNIOR
Date: 11/15/2012

Barely a week out from its visit to China, the UFC heads across the globe for their final Canada event this year. As a special treat for the Canadian audience the UFC 154 main event features a rare title unification showcasing the very best 170-pound fighters. Hosting this illustrious chapter in welterweight history will be Montreal, Quebec, Canada as Carlos Condit, the UFC Interim Welterweight Champion takes on returning UFC Welterweight Champion, Georges St. Pierre at the Bell Centre. The last welterweight unification happened in 2008 at UFC 83: St. Pierre vs. Serra 2 when the UFC held its first ever show in Canada. Georges unified the titles by stopping Serra via 2nd round TKO at the Bell Centre in Montreal. Fast forward four years later; the unified title is again up for grabs in the same country, same arena, and with the same name on the marquee. Can Georges recreate history or does Condit write his own in hostile territory with the upset this Saturday night?

Greg Jackson trained fighter, Georges “Rush” St .Pierre (22-2) suffered 2 knee injuries during training which canceled dual high profile fights; the first being his UFC 137 match against Condit in October of 2011. The second: a torn ACL prior to his fight with Nick Diaz at this past February’s UFC 143, resulting in a 19-month hiatus. Now rested and healthy, the division’s ruler rises to reclai..........

CROSSTOWN RIVALRY TO BE SETTLED IN THE RING
Author: J.C. CASAREZ
Date: 11/15/2012

In the world of college sports, next weekend presents rivalry football games all across the nation. Amongst those great rivalries stands one between two Southern California colleges in UCLA and USC. The historic meeting between the two schools dates back to 1929 when the schools first met. Before the game takes place Saturday afternoon, the chance for the schools to claim bragging rights will take place Friday night in a boxing ring. The LA Collegiate Boxing Invitational  is presented by the Los Angeles Athletic Club and Espada Boxing.

In the main event USC vs UCLA will meet in bouts sanctioned by the National Collegiate Boxing Association.  While the football game is another staple in the many events that the two schools use to claim superiority over the other, what better than a boxing match to prove who really is the top dog. Ramon Espada is the promoter of the event and as he explains the event serves to not only entertain fans of boxing but fans of the two schools and their athletic programs.

“This is our 3rd year doing this event with the Athletic Club. Duke Llewellyn who was really good friends with John Wooden and it was his dying wish to bring boxing back to the club,” said Espada. Llewellyn who was a three-sport athlete while attending USC formed a friendship with UCLA’s famed coach Wooden and helped form the John R.Wooden Award in 1977. His history in boxing goe..........

CARLOS MOLINA WANTS TO HELP GENNADY GOLOVKIN WITH HIS SEARCH FOR AN OPPONENT

CARLOS MOLINA WANTS TO HELP GENNADY GOLOVKIN WITH HIS SEARCH FOR AN OPPONENT

The world's "Uncrowned" #1 154-lb contender "King" Carlos Molina (20-5-2, 6 KOs) is offering help to WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin with his quest to find an opponent.

Golovkin's trainer, Abel Sanchez, was recently quoted as claiming that no one wants to face his fighter, and so far no opponent for Golovkin has been announced.

"I will!" said the eager Molina. "We can do it at 154 or at any weight between 154 AND 160 lbs. It doesn't matter to me. If you want a top opponent to face, here I am. Let's do this."

Russia's Golovkin (24-0, 21 KOs) is scheduled for a January 19 HBO appearance in New York, and Sanchez went so far as claiming Edwin Rodriguez turned down a half million dollars for the fight.

Despite the five losses on his ledger, Molina truly is the uncrowned number one contender. His 20-5-2 record includes draws with Erislandy Lara and Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr., both fights most people thought he clearly won. His disqualification against Kirkland was one of boxing's truly low moments, and he also ended up on the wrong end of several other bad split-decision losses early in his career.
